I don’t like the rain

Tuesday, November 14th, 2006

It’s been raining these few days, and it’s making me depressed.

I don’t like the rain.

i can already hear protests: "Why not??! It’s cold, and you can stay in bed the whole day, snuggled up with your blanket up to your neck. Who doesn’t want that??"

here’s my side of the story.

i don’t like rain because it makes the day dark. No matter what the time, it gets dark. the pouring sound of rain makes too much noise. what more if there’s lightning and thunder. the biggest reason why i don’t like rain: I can’t go out. I don’t like to go out when it’s raining. Can’t go out without getting wet. (even with an umbrella, you get wet, your shoes at least). And it’s worst if you’re stuck outside of home and you desperately want to get back, but, alas, your stuck somewhere without an umbrella. I don’t like those kinda days.

Bottomline: rain = depressed me

On another note, i got to meet Joey G from Channel [V] last sunday. it was my cousin’s sweet 16th birthday party and yeah, she invited Channel [V] and they came. (tsk tsk, kids nowadays…) so, voila~!

Joey G looks hotter in person than on TV. And he’s really friendly too. My sis said she thinks she’s in love. HAHA!

Here’s my cousin’s birthday cake… something i have never ever dreamed of having in my entire life of 21 years. Now why didn’t i think of it? it’s 2-tiered!

On another-nother note, i must have killed all my tastebuds last night when i gargled undiluted Listerine for a little bit too long. I can’t taste a THING now. *cry* i want my sense of taste back….. =(

The Matters of the Heart

Monday, November 13th, 2006

A LOT has been going through my head in the past months, many of which i had the urge to blog about, but i just never had the willpower/creative revelation/strong desire/right words to put it all down. But now it’s time to bring back some spice into my idle blog page, after all, it’s going to be close to 2 months now since i’ve last posted something up.

So mayb i’ll talk(blog) about something serious to begin with.

The Matters of the Heart.

Was listening to some music during one of my oh-too-many breaks from studying. Windows Media Player was on random mode, so it dictated which songs would flow into my ears and sometimes into my mind. (where songs would often get stuck there and play on repeat)

So this one song stuck, and spoke. "True to Your Heart" by 98 Degrees and the legendary Stevie Wonder. The song basically talks about being true to your heart (DUH!) and how your heart knows what’s best for you (and in context, the best partner for you, which the performers audaciously say it’s themselves).

If i may qoute some of the lyrics, "Let your heart decide", "Your heart can tell you no lies", "Just trust your heart and you’ll see the light" , "Your heart knows what’s good for you", "Let you heart show you the way".

Of course, when this song first came out, it was a hit. i mean, what better advice to give our younger generation than to ask them to follow their heart?

wrong.

see, this is what i found.

Jeremiah 17:9  "The heart is deceitful above all things, and beyond cure. Who can understand it?" (TNIV)

the NKJV version is even more kau. "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; Who can know it?"

How then can we "let our hearts decide" when it is a crafty, deceptive trickster?

"Your heart can tell you no lies"?  Yeah, right.

you see, the human heart is capable of so many things. Besides regular beating, it can habour envy, jealousy, hatred, unforgiveness, and the likes. you have a heart. you know what it is capable of.

"For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks" (Matt 12:34)

Our motives in everything we do, come from the heart. Wanna know why you are doing what you’re doing? go have a look at your heart. you’ll find the truest answer there.

The matters of your heart are exclusive to you and you only. You decide what you keep in it. ONLY you get to see what’s in it, too. *thinks* I take that back. ONLY you AND God get to see what’s in it.

"People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart" (1 Sam 16:7)

You search much deeper within,
though the way things appear,
You’re looking into my HEART

Enough said.

So what shall i do with this deceitful heart of mine?

"Hide Your Word in my heart that I might not sin against You" (Ps 119:11)

"Above all else, guard you heart, for everthing you do flows from it" (Pr 4:23)

I think, it is only when we’re truly honest with ourselves to look into our hearts and to admit that there’s a lot of rubbish in it, then we outsmart our hearts’ deceitfulness. And then we further act upon it by asking Jesus to help us get rid of the hurt, the resentment, the ungodly desires, the pride, the malice, and all that. Finally, we load our hearts with His love and His Word. "Let HIM show you the way". Guard it.

Maybe only then can we be truly true to our hearts.
