Have I Told You Lately…

Friday, February 17th, 2006

that i LOVE books? hehe…. YES, I DO! Spent most  of my day today at the library, surrounded by books. Plus, the library is always so quiet and serene. Splendid! I just really like to be around books (and read them of course). Especially like to be in bookstores i.e. MPH, TIMES, BORDERS (soooooo nice!) POPULAR (not so nice, but still has books), because the books are new. haha. Otherwise, really old books are fine too… "Old is Gold". They seem to possess more ‘wisdom’ and ‘experience’, if i may put it that way, having been read and referred-to by who-knows-how-many people, you know?  Hey, the bible is one of the oldest books around, too….

=) gtg read the books i borrowed back… mushi mushi~!

* right… do i sound like a bookworm now? uh oh….

Think red roses, chocolates, and pink hearts. Say hello Valentine’s day. The world’s most commercialised day after Christmas, i think. As Bridget Jones rightly puts it "Valentine’s Day (is) purely commercial, (a) cynical enterprise, anyway. Matter of supreme indifference to me." That’s her say, while everyone else is busy falling head over heels, cracking their heads, thinking of the perfect gift for their special someone. Well, people also say that Vday is not only exclusive to lovers, but also for family and friends to appreciate each other. But let’s face it, who are we kidding. This is ultimately the day of LURVE…. "Love is in the air…" (background music)

Knowing that i have not found my "special someone" to celebrate this day with, it wasn’t such a big deal for me. Relieved of the burden of having to buy a present. and if you’re thinking… "Poor Mel, no date for tonight…", you’re terribly wrong. I have a date. With Jesus! I knew all along that i was going to attend the CoUZ prayer meeting tonight, but it didn’t occur to me that it was a date with Jesus! i was excited. "oh gosh, what present shall i bring for my date?" I thought about it seriously, and i was a little stumped. What gift would Jesus appreciate from me? What would He like? What would He want?

I was reading John 21 this morning. The part where Jesus asks Simon Peter "Do you love me?" 3 times. Peter answered insistently "Yes, I do!" (largely paraphrased). Jesus’ reply? "Feed My lambs", "Tend My sheep", "Feed My sheep". I feel as if Jesus is asking me if i love Him. Instinctively, i’d answer, "Yes, Lord!". Then what next? What does He want? For Peter it was "Feed My sheep", what about me? There, something for me to ponder over. What "sheep" should i "feed"?

To all my coupled friends, *smile*, enjoy your day. To those who are desperately searching for your soulmate, be rest assured, it’s not the end of the world. Lastly, to ALL of you who are enjoying life at Singleton! =) God Bless You! The Ultimate Lover of Your Soul is waiting for you….

Love,

Blackout

Friday, February 10th, 2006

We had a blackout yesterday night at about 11.50pm. Just before the blackout, I was actually looking at my semester plans for my 3rd year, figuring out which courses i should take next and which later (i do this once in a while, when i think of my future. i worry bout it sometimes too). So while i was deciding between taking a minor IT subject or an out-of-faculty paper, *boom* HHEYY….what happened to the lights! Let out a big sigh. sheesh. The first time this has happened in this place I’m living in.

To make things worse, IT WAS A REALLY WARM NIGHT. So warm that i had to open the door to invite the mosquitos in to feast on me. (my Ridsect mats failed me cos it needs electricity to heat the mat). I could hear mosquitos buzzing around my ears, taunting me. ONE DAY I’LL KILL ALL OF YOU mozzies!

All right, enough of death threats. Hello, mid-semester break! Many of the local universities don’t have the privilege of a mid-sem break, but our UM Student Council protested when the Uni brought our holidays forward to the CNY week and the Uni admin gave in. We got back our mid-sem break (which was rightfully ours) and everyone (both students and lecturers) is H A P P Y.

However, more holidays means less time for classes. Less time for classes means more time needed for self-study to catch up. Hence, i’m not going back for this holiday. Heck, i just had one week last week! Gonna be a good girl and go to the library and read. HAHA..  those who know me well enough may start laughing uncontrollably now. Well, that’s the plan.

Plus, it’ll be a bit .. quite … VERY boring cos some most of my friends have already balik-ed kampung. I just hope i don’t get too lonely or depressed.

So on a lighter note, happy holidays (again!) to all who are back home.=) And to those who are not… know that i understand how you feel. (if what you’re feeling is what i’m feeling)Blogface

Happy Doggy Year =)

Sunday, February 5th, 2006

Well, one week has flown right past us and hey look! i’m back in kl. I never realised how much I missed Penang until I was back in Penang. sigh….*dream* and CNY will always be like…well… CNY. There’s nothing else to describe it. Therefore, this post will be in RED in conjunction with the festive season.

First you have the reunion meals. In my family, we have 2 reunions in a day. Steamboat for lunch back in BM where my mom’s family is, and then there’s home cooked dinner (yummy!) at night in Penang. It’s the same every year. But this year, my granma (penang) didn’t cook so we ate out. oh yes, CNY is also synonymously referred to as the "Stuff-Yourself-to-the brim" season. It’s the only time where you get to eat and eat and eat and then… you are encouraged to eat some more!

A trend I see birthing (if there’s such a word) now during CNY, especially in my mom’s family, is the curious enquiries about whether you already have a boyfriend and if you have already set a date for the wedding. (ok, maybe not the wedding part, but you get what i mean) "Make sure aa… when you have a boyfriend… bring him back you know!… must let us see…!" (translated from hokkien) oh well, that’ll be the day… *shudder*

CNY this year was also quite enjoyable BECAUSE… i got to meet up with OLD friends. You’ll find some pictures of them in my profile page. It was really nice, going out for makan, talking, going to the movies, catching up… the best. oh yes, upon special request, my mom cooked laksa and I invited all my high-school friends over for a laksa party. It was a blast. (psst… see how friends and food go together?)

So all in all, I enjoyed myself in the past week. Met up with relatives, caught up with old pals, watched 2 movies (Oliver Twist*thumbs up!* and Fearless *no comment*) visited only 3 houses, went down with fever and diarrhoea, recovered in 2days (praise God!) and now it’s back to school. Just as well.

Yep, i know it’s been a while since I last updated. A friend of mine just commented that i have been suffering from blogivitis. Symptoms: Laziness in updating your blog. haha.. give me a break! i’m just starting to get the hang of this…
